Our Farm Logo states that our Farm was established in 2015, but our little farm has been in the making way before that. Farming, cattle, and entrepreneurship has been in our family for generations and it has been a dream of mine to get something like this started. My kids, Husband, and father in-law, grew up around Holstein and Angus cattle. My husband's grandpa started his own dairy farm years ago, milking everything he had by hand. It wasn't until his son Joe Bowden took over the business that they were able to switch over to machine milking. The Bowden family has history in many of the fields surrounding our home. Me on the other hand, I grew up mainly in the Chelsea area. A town girl until my teenage years when my dad moved us to the countryside. That is when the world of animals started opening up the most for me. Suddenly training horses and having bottle babies of just about every kind you could think of became a normal part of my life. So many of my favorite childhood memories come from growing up with animals, and I believe that is one of the many things that helped make me who I am today. For this reason my husband and I worked hard to ensure that our kids could have some of the same experiences we had growing up. But as the kids grew up and life got busy I found that it was getting harder to get help working our herd of Angus cattle. And if you know anything about angus you know that it is not a small job working them. The temperamental beasts were becoming too much for just me and the kids to handle. When I stumbled across the miniature cattle it wasn't long and I just knew that was the direction we needed to head with our cattle business. It took a year of convincing, but my husband finally agreed it was time to sell the Angus herd. It’s been quite the adventure to get here, and the cows are definitely the main attraction, but little did we know they were just the beginning. Welcome to our Farm! Where we’re living for the little things.
So What Do We Raise? Well.... That could be a long list but let's Just start with cattle.
Since losing our white Dexter bull Bo Bo we have made the switch to raising Highpark and some Highdex crossbreed cattle. In the future we hope to breed full Highlands as well. Our focus remains to be continuing to breed for quality and smaller sized cattle.
The cattle is a huge part of what we do but that's not all we raise. We have our herd of Nigerian Dwarf Goats that seem to be consistent in coming into this world in groups of two-four per nanny, which keeps us busy late winter early spring. And we also have our incubator full of a variety of Poultry up and running in the spring and fall.
Needless to say we have a little bit of everything, and yes it keeps us very busy but we wouldn't change a thing. Making sure everyone is healthy and happy on a daily bases is always our goal.
